Stretch Wrap vs Shrink Film

Both stretch wrap and shrink film are essential to the flow of Trinidad and Tobago’s economy, as well as the rest of the world. These items are the underdogs of our consumer habits and are responsibile for getting your goods to you in perfect condition.

Why do we use stretch wrap?

As our world shrinks, and our global market expands, unitizing loads for shipment has never been more in demand. This way, we can build one large package from multiple smaller packages which make it easier to transport, ship and protect individual products from damage. This is of upmost importance as it makes it possible for goods to arrive in “as made” condition in the most cost-effective way.

Stretch wrapping loads keeps them from moving and shifting during transportation which is a major source of damage.

What is stretch wrap?

This is a highly stretchable plastic film made from Linear Low-Density Polyethylene (LLDPE) which is used to wrap around items. The elastic recovery of this type of plastic keeps products tightly bound.

There are two main ways to apply stretch wrap. At Fakoory’s, we supply stretch wrap for both Machine Wrapping and Hand Wrapping.

What about shrink film?

Shrink film is a versitile polymer which is used to package finished goods.

Heat is applied to the film by a conveyor heat tunnel or a heat gun which catalyzes the film to shrink tightly around the item placed within. Check out the video below to see it in action.

This process creates a durable barrier of protection around the product. This can be used for a wide variety of products such as most retail items (toys, games, books, and any consumer item where appearance is important.) Depending on your need for barrier layers, additives can be combined to meet your needs with this packaging film.

POLYOLEFIN SHRINK FILM

There are various types of shrink film, polyolefin being one of the most popular. It is extremely durable and versatile, making it a premium option. It has replaced PVC Shrink film and is an FDA-Approved Food Safe material.

The versitility and reasonable cost of POF makes it a go-to option for for protective packaging manufacturers of any size. To purchase shrink film at affordable pricing, click here.

IN CONCLUSION

The elastic memory of stretch wrap, along with its ability to cling to itself, keeps a tight layer of protection around the items packaged. Stretch wrap is generally used for unitizing multiple items on a pallet to protect them during shipment/delivery.

Shrink film is used to package finished goods such as produce, meat packaging and much more.
